Whisky has been sent to space, and its not for consumption, its for science.
On August 19, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency cargo spacecraft Kounotori launched from Japan’s Tanegashima Space Center and took with it over 8,000 pounds of supplies and scientific experiments—including a dozen mice and 6 samples of distilled liquor.
The purpose of taking the whisky into space is to study the effects of a zero-gravity, temperature-stable environment on the “development of mellowness” . The study aims to identify why alcoholic drinks lose their alcohol content over time.
